About Suzakumon Gate
Suzakumon Gate was the main gate to Heijo Palace. In front of the gate, visiting delegates from overseas countries were welcomed, Sometimes there were gatherings held there for the Utagaki dancing and singing feasts of young men and women).. On New Year’s Day, the Emperor appeared at this gate and celebrated the New Year. On both sides of Suzakumon Gate, 5.5-meter high mud walls with roofs were built to surround the 130-hectare Imperial Palace.
